Why you should join The Royal Canadian Legion

The Royal Canadian Legion, with nearly 270,000 Legion members in 1,400 branches across the country, encompasses a diverse group of individuals.

Some are serving or retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Others have a close affiliation with the military, such as through a family member. Many are just regular Canadians hoping to make a difference.

But there is one constant among all of them: A desire to support the men and women who have served Canada.

Thinking about joining a cause that matters? Here’s why you should consider the Legion.

Why Legion Membership Matters

Your membership means we can support Veterans and their families

The Legion is a democratic, non-partisan, member-based organization. Without our members, the tremendous programs and services the Legion provides to Canada’s Veterans and their families would disappear.

Your membership helps us help thousands of Veterans every year by:

  • Ensuring Veterans get the benefits they deserve through Veterans Affairs Canada
  • Helping Veterans adjust to civilian life
  • Helping Veterans in need with financial assistance
  • Helping Veterans find help for PTSD and other mental health difficulties
  • Helping homeless Veterans off the streets
  • And more

Show your support — become a member

The Legion is Canada’s foremost Veteran support and community service organization. Join now and help us improve the lives of those who served, support our communities, and remember the Fallen.

You honour and support Canada's Veterans when you join, but there are other member benefits, including:

  • A Legion membership card and official Legion pin
  • A paid subscription to the award-winning Legion Magazine
  • Access to exclusive member items on the Legion Poppy Store
  • A Member Benefits Package with great savings and deals
  • Ability to transfer membership to a Legion Branch at any time

Online membership is just $49.99 per year, and you don't have to be a Veteran to join. Any Canadian citizen or citizen of an Allied nation who is 18 years of age or older is welcome to become a member of the Legion!

"Why I belong to The Legion", by Mary Small

You can have the feeling of belonging to your own "private club" for only $72.75 a year. Invite a friend, or meet people there. Activities are varied and include special dances, live entertainment, lunch and/or dinner, and a safe haven to have a cocktail, join the bridge or poker groups or play snooker. If you live alone and want to be social, The Royal Canadian Legion fills that bill. If you don't enjoy siting by yourself in a restaurant or frequenting a bar, when all you are seeking is companionship, this is the place to be, and applies to both men and women on their own and/or families wanting to participate in a fun environment.
